Four Mile Beach has won many awards over the years and it is easy to see why. Not actually 4 miles long as the name would suggest, Four Mile Beach is in fact just under 4 kilometers as the crow flies. Four Mile Beach commences at the base of Flagstaff Hill which is situated at one end of Port Douglas’ main street of Macrossan Street. All of Port Retreats’ accommodation offerings are located within easy walking distance to Four Mile Beach. Check our location map to see actual distances from our Port Retreats accommodation properties.
This northern end of Four Mile Beach is the main accessible entry point, and also where the Port Douglas Surf Lifesaving Club patrols the beach and maintains the stinger net during the season which runs from November to May. With the coastline being protected by the Great Barrier Reef, the waves are low and the water not prone to rips, so is the perfect spot for kiddies and adults alike. You can also hire sun loungers and umbrellas from Port Douglas Watersports & Beach Hire, as well as tubes, stand-up paddleboards and kayaks for those seeking a little more adventure.
Four Mile Beach is also the perfect spot for your daily exercise, with prime time being early morning and late afternoon. Walk, run or cycle the length of Four Mile Beach or partake in a morning yoga class with Yoga on the Beach Port Douglas.
